Join Julie Newberg, Tularosa potter for an afternoon of getting your hands dirty while learning ceramic handbuilding techniques.
You’ll create a small dish by pressing a favorite leaf into clay to capture its natural texture. All materials are provided, including a selection of leaves—though you’re welcome to bring your own (please keep leaves under 3½ inches). Finished pieces will be glazed and fired by the instructor and ready for pickup approximately two weeks after class.
About your instructor:
Ceramics artist Julie Newberg primarily creates hand-thrown pieces on the pottery wheel, featuring one-of-a-kind bowls, mugs, plates, vases and tea pots. As a recently relocated transplant to New Mexico, she celebrates the beauty and diversity of the natural landscape by incorporating the impressions of leaves from local trees into many of her pieces. Glazing is a favorite part of the pottery process for her, creating new designs and color combinations that compliments her work.
