This class will build on previous Tin Art workshops by Cindy Broughton. Students should feel comfortable with cutting and creating designs on tin. Folding and soldering the tin will be introduced during this class to make a small nicho frame.
Tin nicho frames are traditional Mexican folk art shadow boxes used to create miniature shrines, altars (ofrendas), or to honor loved ones and saints. Made of hand-cut tin, these decorative, often glass-fronted boxes protect, display, and memorialize photos, figures, or sacred items.
You are welcome to bring a small photo or piece of art to add to your nicho-the frame opening will be 2 1/2 x 3 1/2. Cindy will provide a selection of saints and other tiny art for students to choose from.
