Step into the rich tradition of New Mexican craftsmanship and create your own piece of tin art!
Join artist Cindy Broughton of Tularosa, New Mexico for an afternoon exploring the time-honored art of New Mexican tinwork—a craft that has flourished in the Southwest since the mid-1800s. Cindy has studied under two master tin workers, Richard Gabriel and Fred Lopez and enjoys sharing her craft w others.
Originally born out of resourcefulness during the American occupation of 1846, tinwork became a beloved folk art form as Hispanic artisans transformed humble tin containers into beautiful frames, nichos, lamps, and devotional pieces. Though the craft waned during the Industrial Revolution, it experienced a revival in the 1930s during the Pueblo Revival era and remains a treasured part of New Mexico’s cultural heritage today.
In this hands-on workshop, Cindy will share her passion for the craft and guide participants through traditional techniques using hand tools such as tin snips, punches, and hammers. You’ll learn how to cut, emboss, and assemble your own tin creation to take home—no experience necessary!
Always More Butter owner, Marjorie Debat grew up in a small town in Southwest France and while she never imagined making and selling her own for a living, she has always been fascinated by pastry making. After moving to the United States and often craving authentic croissants, she decided to create her own. We are so glad she did!
